Some of the stations which were built underground were dangerously close to the foundations of old buildings making them a very big challenge to secure
To ensure that the Metro is capable of providing safety to all its passengers in case of a hazard is a task of gigantic proportions in its own right and the responsibility of securing the place in case of a fire hazard fell to Vasu Infosec, the experts in fire prevention, surveillance and fighting. The most challenging aspect of the project was that the metro stations built under the DAMEL project were built at various altitudes. Some were built underground while others were elevated above the normal height of the surface. This meant that each of the stations posed a unique challenge in terms of ensuring fire safety. Vasu Infosec installed state of the art fire-fighting systems across the 5 stations of Dhaula Khan, Shivaji Stadium, Dwarka, IGI Airport and TVB Station. The stations were also equipped with a gaseous fire supression systems to eliminate the fire by flooding in case of an outbreak. As an additional safety measure even external hydrant and sprinkler systems were installed to avoid risk to the travelling passengers. The DAMEL is now one of the most fire-safe metros in the world thanks to the services of Vasu Infosec.
